Like many tools, soldering stations can be used safely by nearly anyone as long as the necessary precautions are taken.  Remember that you are working with molten metal, and if it does come into contact with your skin you will get burnt! While operational the tip of your soldering iron will often exceed 700 degrees F, so always keep safety in mind when using your Weller soldering station. Our 5 Safety Tips are:

Always solder on a surface that is fire resistant such as plasterboard. Custom mats made exclusively for soldering can also be purchased, and are highly recommended.
Take care that you are working in a well-ventilated area. The fumes from molten lead are toxic so wear a protective mask if necessary.
Always rest your iron on a stand designed for that purpose. Your soldering station comes with an appropriate stand but never get lazy and just set it down on the workbench.
Remember to always grip the items you are soldering with pliers, and wear protective gloves to be extra safe. Objects you are soldering will get hot very quickly.
Keep a fire extinguisher handy. You will more than likely never need to use it, but if it ever does get used you wont regret having it on hand!

Follow this common-sense advice and maintain your equipment carefully and you should get years of use and enjoyment out of your soldering station.

A note on equipment maintenance: You should regularly examine your soldering station and soldering iron for any damage or wear and tear to the cables and plug. If any damage at all, such as cracks, burns or cuts immediately stop using it and replace your soldering station to avoid the risk of serious injury or fire.
